Q: Why did you name your website FablePortal.net?
A: Quite simple; A fable is in reality just a brief story but it can also be a legend, or myth. I generally consider a fable as an adventure. A portal is a gateway, used in both fantasy and science fiction. In general a portal can lead to many things, in this case, many different stories. A network is well, a net that connects things or people to one key topic, in this case, my stories.

Q: You claim that all your stories are free, is this 100% true?
A: Unless otherwise stated: Yes, it is. I do not write my stories for profit, but because i enjoy writing and coming up with new and crazy stories. I want people to see my work without having to pay for it. All content found of this website will remain free. In the future i may add a little shop, where people can by hardcopies of my original fiction, but the stories will still remain free for online reading/download.

Q: I found spelling/grammar mistake, how come such a thing is there?
A: While i try avoid spelling mistakes and grammar issues, then i can't really avoid them every time. I am Danish, so English is not my main language. If you do spot some of these mistakes then feel free to report them to me at: bug-report@fableportal.net with all the details you can (page number, story etc) and ill fix them when i can find the time.

Q: What is an original fiction/artwork?
A: An original fiction/artwork is a publication of text and/or images which has been created by yours truly or otherwise purchased for money. In short, then it means that the story setting, artwork and anything else related to the original work belongs to me, and i can do what i see fit with it. No one else can tell me what to do with it, thereby giving me free control.

Q: Why do you write original stories? You are already writing fan-fiction stories.
A: I write original fiction because i really like writing, and i tend to go overboard at times when writing fan-fiction, and it can develop into an original work. Most of my original works has been developed on a crazy idea, and developed from there.

Q: Why do you have to many projects started? Would it not be easier to finish one work at a time?
A: I tend to develop several stories at once, as one can easily get a bit tired or get stuck in the same story setting, and one can then change to another setting and develop that for a bit until a solution comes around. Also, i can't really stick to only one thing at a time.

Q: Why did you decide to make your original work available online, why not use a publisher?
A: I decided to put everything i make online for free, because i felt it would reach a broader group of people and with luck, it may get the attention of certain people who would like to use it in some way.

Q: If i really like one of your original works, am i allowed to write a story/artwork based on it?
A: To get the full details on what you are allowed to do and what you can't do, can be found on the "Terms of Service" link which can be found next to the copyright notice at the bottem of this page.

Q: What is fan-fiction/art? Is it legal?
A: A fan-fiction/art is a work of art (picture and/or images), which often pays tribute to an original copyrighted story setting, meaning the use of original characters/story setting in brand new stories.

In regards to the legality of fan-fiction/art then fan-created works is generally tolerated or even encouraged by the copyright holder(s) as it can work as free advertising. However, there have been a series of cases in which a fan-fiction/art has conflicted with the original work, which has lead to the issuing of cease & desist letters. (meaning to stop all activities regarding the work in question) or even law suits. Original authors tend to avoid reading fan-fiction to avoid being accused of copyright breach. Laws regarding this matter may differ from country to country.

Q: What could cause authors/companies to issue C&D letter or even sue fan-fiction writers?
A: The original author is likely to sue, if they feel that their copyright has been violated, if a fan-fiction has made major changes to the original story setting, or is written on with the goal of profit in mind (resulting in loss of profit for the original copyright holder). Other causes can be that a fan-fiction can cause bad publicity about the original work. At times, the original authors simply just won't allow fan-fiction to be based on their story setting, regardless of the content.

Q: Why do people write fan-fiction?
A: I can't speak for everyone, but i write it because i write fan-fiction because i really like a story setting, and want to help develop it. I am sure most people feel that way. I do not like fan-fiction which offends or ruin an original story setting however.

Q: Do you make any money on your fan-fiction stories? Like from sales and such?
A: As a general rule about my fan-fiction stories; No, i do not make a profit from them. This is due to the fact that a fan-fiction writer do not own the copyright to the original story setting, so making a profit of it, is illegal.

Q: Why make a dedicated website? Why not just use established fan-fiction communities?
A: It is hard to get "noticed" amongst thousands of other fan-fiction writers. I do not consider my website better than others, but having my own website does give me the ability to add my personal touch for each story setting. I do of cause, encourage people to check out the established fan-fiction communities. Links can be found in the links section.

Q: You mentioned a lot about copyright, but does the fan-artwork on your website belong to the original copyright holder?
A: All artwork found on this website, has been custom made for this website only, and has been paid from my own pockets so while the story setting belongs to the original copyright holder, then any and all artwork belongs to me, unless otherwise stated. This includes background images and desktops.

Q: Would it be okay for me to use your fan-fiction stories/art?
A: Since i do not hold copyright to the original story setting, then i can't approve the publication of my fan-fiction work on another website unless the original copyright holder(s) has approved of the story. Look for the "Approved" tag on the stories. Details on this can be found on each story-subpage.

In regards to the artwork, then they may not be placed on other websites without permission from me. Nor may be altered in any way to be used on other websites without permission from me. This includes all images and related material.

Q: What is story TAGs?
Story tags is what i use to provide rating on my stories and content in general. Below are the TAGs i use:

17+ = Aimed for mature and adults only. Stories of this type may be offensive to some individuals, even adults. Should not be read by people who might take offence for detailed depictions of violence that includes blood and gore, sexual references and strong language.

13+ = Aimed for Teenagers and young adults. Stories of this type contain violence, suggestive themes, crude humor, minimal blood, simulated gambling, and infrequent use of strong language.

Sci-Fi = Science Fiction, space setting, as well as a heavy influence of technology.

Fantasy = Fantasy setting, middle age or influenced by fantasy in general.

Status = The current status of the story. (types are: Outlining, Planning, Writing, Completed)

Approved = Approved by Original Copyright Holders, meaning that a story bearing this tag has been approved by the person(s)/company who holds copyright, giving it the "stamp" of approved creation.

Stories of this type, while still fan fiction may be removed if requested/demanded by the copyright holder, as long as a valid reason is provided (loss of profits, bad publicity or other related issues). (This TAG appears separately)

Unapproved = Unapproved by Original Copyright Holders, meaning that a story has yet to be officially approved by the person(s)/company who holds copyright, and has yet to get or is unable the "stamp" of approved creation.

Stories of this type, while still fan fiction may be removed if requested/demanded by the copyright holder, as long as a valid reason is provided (loss of profits, bad publicity or other related issues). (This TAG appears separately)

A full TAG would look something like this:

Q: Why do you have age tags on your stories?
A: I have added the tags due to the fact that some of my stories may not be appropriate for minors, due to the content, and I do not want to make any sort of censorship on my stories. That is why i have these tags. Some stories are rated for teens while others are for mature people. The warnings are there, so i have done what i can without resorting to login systems and age request.

Q: As a parent then i feel concerned that you make stories with this content available for free, even with your age tags. How can i avoid that my children don't read the mature rated stories?
A: Easy. You can block the stories which are mature rated under the settings in your internet browser, or block the site in general if you feel the need to protect your children against the harsh language and content of some of the stories. Alternately then you can always download the stories for them, and print it so they can read it offline instead of on the site.
